NSA Listening

This site is not up and running yet, but I feel we must expand our horizons when talking about the further developments in the NSA surveillance story. So a quick point: many have commented on the recent trend of government spying on peace and environmental groups. As this election year develops, we know that the parties will focus their attention on issues such as abortion and homosexuality. Do we really want to give an executive branch likely to push for the outlawing of gay marriage and abortion access to any of our personal information? If a civil rights struggle takes on violent tones (strikes, boycotts, civil disobedience), will groups such as Planned Parenthood and ACT UP be connected to terrorism? Would that justify government eavesdropping to profile one's sexuality or one's reproductive choices?
